Braces

Metal Braces

Metal braces are a reliable, effective option for straightening teeth in both children and adults. Made from strong, medical-grade stainless steel, they are compact, safe and built to handle everyday wear. Dr Chisholm uses modern bracket systems designed to move teeth efficiently, helping you stay on track with fewer unexpected delays.

Children often start orthodontic treatment once most or all permanent teeth have come through, depending on their bite and jaw development. Adults can benefit from braces too—treatment may take a little longer because adult bone is denser, but the results can be just as stable and effective. No matter your age, braces can improve function, comfort and the appearance of your smile.

Clear Braces

If you want a straighter smile but prefer a more discreet option, clear (ceramic) braces can be a great choice.

Ceramic braces use tooth-coloured, translucent brackets that work in a similar way to traditional metal braces, but are designed to blend in with your teeth. They’re suitable for many children, teens and adults and can treat a wide range of crowding and bite concerns.

Because the brackets are clear, ceramic braces are less noticeable in day-to-day life and in photos. Modern ceramic brackets are strong and, when fitted and cared for properly, are designed to stay securely bonded throughout treatment—just like metal braces.

Many patients choose ceramic braces because they blend in with the teeth while still offering the control and precision of fixed braces.

Invisalign

Invisalign is a discreet way to straighten teeth using a series of clear, removable aligners—so you can keep smiling with confidence throughout treatment. Because there are no wires or brackets, Invisalign can be more comfortable for many patients, and you can remove your aligners to eat, drink, brush and floss as normal.

Invisalign is popular with adults and many teenagers, but it isn’t the best option for every smile. Dr Chisholm will assess your teeth and bite and talk you through the most suitable treatment for your goals.

Your Invisalign treatment uses custom-made aligners designed specifically for your teeth. You’ll wear each set for a prescribed period (often 1–2 weeks) before moving to the next, gradually guiding your teeth into their planned positions. We’ll monitor your progress with regular reviews to keep treatment on track.

We use digital scans and 3D treatment planning to map out your tooth movements before you start. You’ll be able to preview a simulated outcome, so you can feel confident about the plan and what to expect.

Treatment time varies from person to person, but many Invisalign cases are completed in around 12–18 months. You’ll typically visit us every 8–10 weeks so we can check your progress and provide your next aligners as needed.

Because the aligners are clear, Invisalign is subtle in photos and day-to-day life. They’re also removable, which makes eating and cleaning easier—but for best results they need to be worn as directed, most of the day and night.
